Project Overview
This is the type of project we vowed to never take on, but we can't resist a challenge. The client got in contact with us after they had tried to create their own smart home using Samsung SmartThings, but became frustrated by the poor reliability of this setup. The lack of reliability came from the mismatch of devices and communication protocols. Samsung SmartThings is also incredibly basic in comparison to what we can achieve, so the client wasn't able to create certain automations.
During the initial meeting we were concerned by the wide variation of manufactures. Although we strive to create a smart home that is capable of managing a variety of manufacturers and devices, we know which devices are of quality and which devices work best together. After explaining to the client what our action plan would be, and that they would likely have to sell or replace some of their current devices, we were given the green light.
The main goal here was to transform this dysfunctional nightmare into a reliable, luxurious smart home that the client has always dreamed of having. Thanks to our teams vast knowledge of the smart home industry and current smart home market, we were able to accomplish this goal with ease.
The biggest job was the lighting. Over 15 smart relays were fitted behind almost every light switch in the house, and a handful of GU10 RGB bulbs were fitted in the kitchen. The client only wanted colour control in the kitchen, which is why we used the smart bulbs, but everywhere else used smart relays. Not only do smart relays help to bring down the cost of a project, but they also increase the reliability of the home. You can learn more about this here.
The clients solar panels were also integrated into the home, allowing them to control and monitor their power consumption with ease. Although they could previously do this from their solar app, they can now do it from the same app that controls all of the other devices in their home, simplifying the overall control process. This was our first time integrating solar power into a smart home, but it was no issue for our expert team.
It wouldn't be a Luxeia smart home without the central home control app, which we installed onto all of the clients devices, allowing them to monitor and control their home from anywhere in the world. Not only can they access the app from their phone, but they also opted for a control tablet to be installed in the downstairs hallway, allowing them to control everything in their home from a central point. Now that's the ultimate peace of mind!
